Giacomo Toncelli is a designer based in Pisa, Italy, working on interior design, interior consulting, 3D rendering and product design in Pisa, in Tuscany and remotely across Italy. Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions; for anything else, see the services or write to me from the contact page.

1.Investment Value: Why invest in an Interior Designer instead of DIY or relying on a furniture retailer?

A designer does not sell furniture stock, but provides unbiased advice aligned exclusively with your best interests. While a retailer prioritizes inventory clearance, my goal is to optimize your budget by preventing costly purchasing mistakes. Think of it like a specialized mechanic for your car: professional expertise prevents expensive oversights and ensures every euro invested delivers long-term functional value, not just superficial styling.

2.The DIY Risk (Inspiration vs. Reality): I already have plenty of ideas, can I handle the project myself?

Clear inspirations are a great starting point, but the primary risk is a fragmented result: individual pieces that look great in isolation but clash in the actual space. My role is to calibrate lighting, proportions, and spatial coherence. Drawing on over 10 years of design experience, I transform loose concepts into precise technical plans, resolving spatial and functional conflicts well before work begins.

3.Service Scalability: I am not sure I need full-scope design. Can I start with a smaller consultation?

Absolutely. The workflow is modular: you can start with a Core Package (color palette with exact RAL codes, moodboard, and lighting strategy) and choose to upgrade to Advanced or Full Design later with zero penalties or friction. You only pay for what you need, scaling the scope as your confidence in the project develops.

4.Site Coordination (The Designer as a Shield): How do you protect me from contractor stress and site errors?

I serve as your single point of contact, your eyes and ears on site. I translate contractor jargon into clear, actionable updates and ensure technical drawings are executed down to the millimeter. On-site friction is caught and resolved proactively before turning into costly overruns or construction delays.

5.Technical Oversight: Hidden MEP Systems: How do you coordinate lighting, power outlets, and plumbing to avoid on-site clashes?

I provide detailed technical construction drawings specifically tailored for contractors. These include precise layout sheets for electrical outlets, plumbing points, and architectural lighting fixtures. This ensures zero ambiguity during execution and gives you an exact technical map of all hidden infrastructure, invaluable for future maintenance.

6.Fee Transparency: How are design fees calculated? Are there hidden costs?

Transparency is essential. Professional fees are determined upfront based on project scope and complexity: calculated per square meter, tied to the overall investment, or quoted as a flat fee for focused advisory packages. Pricing is clearly detailed from the initial consultation, ensuring complete clarity with zero unexpected fees.

7.Functionality & Ergonomics: How do you ensure the space is practical and liveable, not just a magazine spread?

Aesthetics are the outcome; ergonomics and flow are the foundation. Designing an interior means analyzing daily movement patterns and spatial strengths to prevent everyday obstacles. Every decision—from furniture placement to selecting durable surfaces (such as engineered stone over delicate marble in high-traffic kitchens)—is driven by spatial optimization and functional longevity.

8.Technical Expertise & Visualization: How can I be confident in the final result before spending on construction work?

I employ advanced 3D visualization tools, ranging from photo-matching for advanced phases to photorealistic CGI simulations for full projects. You receive a faithful preview of lighting moods, material textures, and finishes within your actual environment, allowing you to validate aesthetic harmony and project cohesion before it is finalized.

9.Professional Scope & Collaborations: Do you handle municipal permits and bureaucratic paperwork?

As a designer, I coordinate the entire project and the specialized consultants involved, while partnering with licensed technical specialists (surveyors, structural technicians) for municipal filings and statutory permits (SCIA, CILA). This ensures the creative vision is backed by the highest technical and legal expertise, while providing a single, clear point of contact for the client.

10.Areas served: Where do you work?

I work in Pisa and its province, throughout Tuscany and beyond. Interior consulting and 3D rendering are also available remotely across Italy.

11.Remote work: Do you also work outside Pisa or remotely?

Yes. Besides Pisa, I work throughout Tuscany and beyond. Interior consulting and 3D rendering can be carried out entirely remotely, anywhere in Italy, by sharing floor plans, photos and reference material at a distance.

12.Rendering timing: How long does a rendering take?

On average about 15 days, depending on the complexity of the project and the number of images required. A precise estimate is given after reviewing the starting material.

13.Project duration: How long does a full interior design project take?

It depends on the project: the size of the spaces, the type of work (a furniture refresh or a full renovation), the time needed for decisions and the schedules of the contractors involved. That is why I do not quote standard timeframes: a precise estimate is given after the first meeting, once needs and goals are clear.

14.Rendering for professionals: Do you create renderings for architects, contractors and furniture companies?

Yes. I create photorealistic 3D renderings, animations and post-production for architects, design studios, building contractors and furniture companies, in Pisa and remotely across Italy.

15.First meeting: Is the first introductory meeting free?

Yes, the first introductory meeting is free and with no obligation: it is a chance to get to know each other, understand your needs and decide together where to start.
